In this story

If you are looking for matcha in Phuket, Baboon’s menu gives you two named places to start: Matcha Latte and Pink Matcha Latte. The cafe is in Wichit, behind Three Monkeys, with a jungle setting for a tea break or a meal. Your best choice depends on how much tea flavor, milk texture and sweetness you want in the glass.

Start with the drinks menu, then ask about the preparation that interests you. The name Pink Matcha Latte does not by itself establish the pink ingredient, and a latte name does not tell you the milk or sweetness level. Those are useful questions to settle before you order.

What matcha brings to a drink

Matcha is powdered green tea made from tencha. Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries identifies tencha as the raw ingredient used to make matcha. In a matcha drink, the fine powder is mixed into liquid; this differs from steeping loose leaves and removing them.

For the drinker, it helps to expect a tea flavor that can feel grassy, savory, gently bitter or rounded, depending on the tea and preparation. Milk changes that balance, while added sweetness can soften the impression of bitterness. There is no single shade of green or flavor description that tells you everything about a finished latte.

A photograph is especially limited. Lighting, milk quantity, glass color and editing can change how the drink appears. Choose according to the flavor you want and the information available, rather than treating the brightest-looking cup as a reliable quality ranking.

Matcha Latte or Pink Matcha Latte?

Your preferenceStarting pointUseful question

The regular Matcha Latte is the more direct menu starting point if your main interest is tea with milk. Pink Matcha Latte is worth discussing if you want another flavor alongside it. You do not have to guess from the color, or choose a more elaborate drink simply because it photographs well.

For a first visit, one familiar preference is enough. “I like milk tea but prefer it less sweet” gives the team something concrete to work with. “I enjoy a noticeable green-tea taste” is useful too. You do not need to know a tea’s cultivar or growing region to order a satisfying drink.

Milk, sweetness and temperature

Milk changes more than creaminess

Milk affects how strong the tea seems, as well as the texture of the drink. If you usually choose an alternative milk, ask which options are available for matcha and how they work in the recipe. Availability as an add-on elsewhere on a menu does not automatically establish every possible substitution.

For dietary requirements, consider the entire preparation. Switching the main milk does not address a separate cream, sauce or other dairy ingredient if one is present. Explain the requirement first and let the team confirm what is possible.

Be specific about sweetness

“Less sweet” is a helpful start, but ask where the sweetness comes from. A drink made with a prepared sweetened component may allow different changes from one sweetened during assembly. If you want no added sweetener, say that clearly and ask whether the recipe can meet it.

You can also think about what you are eating. With a sweet treat, you may prefer a more restrained drink. With a savory plate, a sweeter matcha might be the contrast you want. These are taste preferences, not strict pairing rules.

Ask which serving styles are available

Check whether your chosen matcha can be served in the temperature and format you want. A hot milk drink and an iced one do not stay the same throughout a visit: one cools, while the other changes as its ice melts. Choose for how you plan to enjoy the drink rather than assuming every menu item comes both ways.

Matcha contains caffeine

Matcha is a non-coffee drink, but it is not caffeine-free. Tea producer Ippodo explicitly notes that its teas made from the tea plant, including matcha, contain caffeine. The amount in an individual cafe drink depends on its tea and preparation, so a cup-size comparison with coffee is not enough to give an exact answer.

If avoiding caffeine is important to you, ask the team to help identify a suitable different drink. Do not choose matcha solely because it appears in a non-coffee section. Likewise, a sweet taste or generous amount of milk does not mean a tea-based drink has no caffeine.

Make matcha part of a Wichit visit

A matcha stop can be the whole plan, or it can fit naturally with food. Browse the food menu if you are hungry, and read our breakfast guide when you want a morning meal. Confirm breakfast availability with the team before planning your journey around it.

If you are deciding between a drink and a sweet course, our dessert guide helps separate those choices. A milk-based tea may already satisfy the creamy part of the occasion; you can then decide whether you also want something to eat.

Matcha questions

Where can I order matcha at Baboon?

Baboon is in Wichit, behind Three Monkeys. Matcha Latte and Pink Matcha Latte appear on the drinks menu; confirm the available preparation when ordering.

Does a matcha latte contain coffee?

A conventional matcha latte combines matcha and milk, rather than espresso. Ask about the specific recipe if you need to avoid coffee or another ingredient.

Is matcha caffeine-free?

No. Matcha contains caffeine. A non-coffee menu category should not be read as a caffeine-free category.

What is in Pink Matcha Latte?

Ask the team about the pink component and the complete recipe. The published item name alone is not enough to identify its flavor, sweetener or allergens.

Can I request less sugar or a different milk?

Ask before ordering. The possible changes depend on the drink’s components and the options available; a request should be confirmed rather than assumed.
